Having lived in Birmington, AL, during high school, Joan Tornow described for us what "the most segregated city in the country" was like during the early 1960's. Following a review of the events of the 60's and early 70's, Joan switched to the present to describe the current state of civil rights under our first African-American president. Near the end of the service we celebrated four new members who signed the Book of Members and received a plaque of the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism.
