On Saturday, October 13, PUUF held its first Saturday service at the Burley Community Hall, with 18 people in attendance. Our plan is to meet twice monthly, on the second Saturday (from 9:00 to 11:00 am) and on the fourth Sunday of each month (from 4:00 to 6:00 pm). The second Saturday service may be used to explore and discuss topics of interest to the congregation and the larger community, as well as additional traditional services. The fourth Sunday afternoon service will continue with the traditional format.
The service on October 13 featured a forum on Marriage Equality and Referendum 74, which is on the November ballot. Two members of the UU Task Force on Marriage Equality, Allen Mendel and Jonathan Olson, spoke to the assembled group. In addition, three members of the PUUF congregation, Susan Dearth, Sue Redkey, and Gary Culbertson spoke about what marriage equality means to them. A lively and good-hearted discussion followed the presentations. And, of course, after the discussion came more coffee, breakfast goodies and fellowship.
This was an excellent start for our second service.
