Amy Wilkerson added her brogue to a description of the Scottish New Year's celebration of letting go of the painful, negative thoughts of the past year and looking forward with hope to the new year. You can read her presentation here, or listen to it below.
Sue Redkey was our Lay Leader and Ellie Klauminzer our speaker in a service about the U.S. history of the Christmas holiday. What was once a wild carnival season in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (and temporarily banned in New England) evolved into a celebration of family, children, gift exchange and charitable giving in the nineteenth. But that’s also when it became so commercial.Sue helped us sort out our feelings about Christmas and how we can make this a sacred season, meaningful in our own home. Marvelous music was provided by the Finally Found Trio: Teri Wolf, Kat Cullman and Curtis Koller from Tahoma UUC.
