November's fourth Sunday service featured a theme appropriate to the season: hospitality. How do we help others feel warmly welcome and deeply connected with the life of the church? Carol Thomas Cissel, Intern Minister at Quimper UUF, spoke movingly about "radical hospitality" in a sermon titled, "All Are Welcome Here." She emphasized the need for UUs to be more demonstrative about our liberal principles.

Gary Klauminzer gave an enlightening talk on Hurricane Sandy and the Reality of Climate Change. Gary showed photos and videos of the devastation of recent severe weather events worldwide, then connected these events to global warming caused by man. That is, the carbon dioxide we have sent into the atmosphere is the systemic cause of severe weather events.
Gary then refuted the most common claims of global warming deniers and revealed the concerted efforts of the fossil fuel industry to promote doubt. He related a personal story discovering intentional disinformation in a purportedly scientific paper that was funded by a major oil company.
He finished with an outline of steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint and work collectively toward dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A lively discussion followed.
