On Saturday, February 13 travel to Vashon Island to walk a beautiful path (accessible to all) lit by hundreds of luminaries - dusk until midnight The path, lined with our lanterns, will begin at McMurray Middle School - 9329 SW Cemetery Road. The luminaries on Vashon Highway and Cemetery Road will guide you. This event is a way to spread light and love during dark times and is a fundraiser for one of VIUF’s youth who will be joining the Seattle UUC Youth Group an Immigration Justice trip to the Arizona-Mexico Border in April (sponsored by the UU College of Social Justice and BorderLinks). You are invited to dedicate a luminary to a person or group who has been a beacon in your life or to those you want to send hope, light, and love out to. Their name will be written on the luminary, and we will mail a card letting them know that a luminary will be lit in their honor. You may dedicate a luminary online: www.luminariesonvashon.com, by mail: LUMINARIES/ P.O. Box 2317, Vashon, WA 98070, or at the event. Let us know what name you want written on the luminary and where we can mail the card. We can also mail you the card if you would like to present it to the recipient yourself. Suggested donation: $1-5 per luminary. More information on website. Inquiries: luminariesonvashon@gmail.com. We invite you to walk this path: ~ alone to reflect or recharge ~ with a loved one(s) or beloved community member ~ with someone who is alone and needs to connect with the light of others Clarissa Pinkola Estes wrote, “One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul...The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire…. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it.” These luminaries will be our “lanterns” as we promote that which we want to “catch fire.” On the Eve of Valentine’s Day, together we will “stand up and show [our souls]” as we share our love and appreciation for those who Stand on the Side of Love. And we will send light and love out to those who need it.
