Nov. 11, 2015
Sunday, Nov. 8 UU members from around the state came together for a legislative conference via phone/video. Eighteen different congregations had member participation to determine the focus for our agenda for the upcoming legislative session. Those participating from PUUF were: Kathy Knowles, Jo Ann Brixie, Judy and Jim Arbogast.
Video interviews on major topics were shared prior to the conference and are available on the Washington State Voices for Justice website: http://uuvoiceswa.nationbuilder.com
Discussions were held around the issues of climate justice, economic justice (including labor issues and school funding equity), human rights (including the death penalty, voting rights, and criminal justice), and other issues brought up by members (included treaty rights).
Individuals voted on issues that we want to see as Washington State legislative priorities. The top votes were for Initiative 732 (carbon WA); tax reform (capital gains/income tax/cutting loopholes); control of coal/oil trains; criminal justice issues (ending the death penalty & 3 strikes/reform of the system); and supporting a minimum wage bill.
Please consider contributing to the Social Justice Network. By contributing to the WA Social Justice network, you support the ongoing work of our lobbyists to keep these issues in front of our legislators. http://uuvoiceswa.nationbuilder.com Every contribution helps.
