Tuesday evening we learned that Rev. Florence Caplow is leaving Washington State at the end of June. She has accepted a position as minister to a UU Congregation in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, which is near her 88 year old mother, who is needing Florence to be near-by.
Florence: “When I ordained as a Zen priest, nine years before I ordained as a UU minister, I made the vow that I would always go where I am most needed. That vow led me into UU ministry. That vow led me here, with all the hope in the world. And now it is leading me back to the person who raised me as a single mother, to help her at the most vulnerable time in her life. I can’t avoid that call and responsibility, as much as it hurts to leave and give up on my dreams here.”
While we are saddened by these events, she has indicated she will work with us until she leaves and has suggestions for helping to fill the gap here at PUUF. The Quimper UU Fellowship will also be undergoing a time of discernment as well.
Rev. Caplow’s last service with PUUF will be May 12 [Mothers' Day]. Please be sure to join us as we celebrate her service with PUUF and wish her good tidings on her next journey.
